Where Did You Study Dentistry?
Dr. Sandau received his dental doctorate from Rutgers School of Dental Medicine (formerly New Jersey Dental School) and his medical doctorate from Rutgers School of Medicine (formerly New Jersey Medical School). Dr. Sandau completed a one-year internship in general surgery with pediatric and adult general anesthesia training.
Dr. Sandau completed his oral and maxillofacial surgery residency training as the administrative chief resident at Rutgers School of Dental Medicine and University Hospital, a level one-trauma center in Newark, NJ, and is trained in all aspects of oral and maxillofacial surgery. His comprehensive, six-year residency training emphasized advanced techniques in the surgical extraction of impacted teeth, adult and pediatric general anesthesia, bone grafting to reconstruct the jaws, dental implant surgery, treatment of jaw cysts and tumors, management of dental and maxillofacial trauma, orthognathic surgery, cleft lip and palate surgery, temporomandibular joint surgery, surgical treatment of complicated jaw infections and abscesses, and the surgical exposure of unerupted and impacted teeth to aid in orthodontic treatment.
Dr. Sandau is a member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American College of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, New Jersey Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, American Dental Association, New Jersey Dental Association, American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, and the New Jersey Dental Society of Anesthesiology.
In addition to his professional skills and educational background, Dr. Sandau is dedicated to giving back to the community. He has traveled to Bangladesh and participated with Healing the Children, where he treated both children and adults abroad, suffering from severe facial, cleft, and burn deformities.
Outside of the Dental Office, What Do You Like to Do?
When he is not treating patients, Dr. Sandau enjoys spending quality time his wife and three children. He also enjoys traveling, the beach, weight-training, walking, bicycling, and trying different cuisines.
